The Glenwood Residence by Wernerfield

The Glenwood residence is a concrete house design ideas created by Wernerfield Architects sited around the main natural feature in Dallas, Texas. The main living space and master suite of this glenwood residence are all open onto the courtyard through a series of floor to ceiling mahogany and glass sliding panels that seamlessly integrate interior and exterior. Deep overhangs along these spaces serve to protect the home from the harsh Texas sun and create a generous covered outdoor living area. Designed to follow the natural site topography, one descends into the courtyard through a steel gate and series of stone walls that run the width of the site and divide public and private space.

From the street, the second story office and guest room are pushed to the rear of the site and obscured by this oak to reduce the overall scale of the home. A natural, yet minimal material palette constructed with rigorous and exacting detail also make the home feel both inviting and modern. A number of environmental features including geothermal heating and cooling, energy star appliances, regional building materials (such as Granbury Texas limestone), and a high performance building envelope are all incorporated into the project.

La Finca 4 House in Somosaguas by A-cero

This modern concrete house design ideas is created by the Spanish architectural firm A-cero Architects. Its La Finca 4 House in Somosaguas, a suburb of Madrid. The house floor plan has the form of a greek cross, and is delimited by the access pathway and the other properties on both of its sides.

These 1.200 sq m compact single-family residence has a great functionality in the distribution of the interior spaces and their openness to the exterior to make the most of the views. Both ideas are also present in the interior design and in the selection of the construction materials. The design follows a functional structure evolving around the hall stairs, an central design element that provokes a surprising visual and spatial effect. Another breathtaking space is the double height volume that contains the living room.

The building is divided in three levels according to the program’s needs. The access is on the ground floor, where all the more public spaces are located: hall, living and dining rooms, office, TV room and kitchen. The living room occupies a double height space open to the exterior views through great glass panes. All the objects that could interfere with the contemplation of the views, like railings or walls, have been suppressed or replaced by transparent elements. The main entrance door is made of a 6 m high glass pane, letting the visitor perceive the interior of the house.

On a lower level are located the technical installation rooms, laundry, indoor swimming pool, games room, wine cellar, garage and a leisure area with a reading space, dining room and TV.

A staircase with glass railings and a glass corridor that goes through the double height space takes to a studio on the upper level overlooking the living room. Next to this area are the master bedroom, equipped with a walk-in closet and bathroom, and four more bedrooms with bathrooms, organized around a corridor covered with shelves.

The house is covered with white travertine, creating a clean and smooth finishing, the porch’s floor and the deck surrounding the pool and jacuzzi are made of ipe wood . The garden on the front of the house is organized in terraces and parterres, forming a decorative outline surrounded by a surface covered with white gravel. Three sculptures are carefully placed in this place, marking the entrance. The interior of the house follows the same colour scheme and predominance of natural materials. The floors are covered with ceramic tiles and wood on the upper level.

Ames Hotel Development in Boston by Rockwell Group

This fresh and sleek hotel interior design development of Ames Hotel in Boston is designed by New York-based architect and designer David Rockwell of Rockwell Group in collaboration with the Morgans design team. The 14-story ames hotel will include 120 guest rooms, a ground-floor restaurant, a second-floor lounge and private dining rooms, and a fitness center.

The Ames hotel is a 19th century historic building that has been imaginatively reworked by Rockwell Group to blend and contrast the old and the new in 113 modern-style rooms and dramatic public spaces. With the project, Rockwell Group intends to bring a fresh and theatrical experience to the hospitality sector in Boston.

Rockwell Group has skillfully preserved stunning original fixtures such as the dramatic marble and brass feature staircase, the mosaic tile vaulted ceiling in the lobby and the intricately carved facade, while selectively creating a refreshed, cutting edge intimacy in the guest rooms and public spaces. A focused attention to detail along with a sense of narrative continuity was kept throughout the entire hotel offering a consistent yet theatrical finish.

Off of the lobby the two story hotel restaurant is also a contrast of eras, merging the historical context with a touch of the modern day dandy. Each floor features a main bar as well as a formal dining area, with finishes inspired by bespoke men’s tailoring with subtle unexpected details. The main feature of the restaurant is the “cabinet of curiosities” on the second floor displaying over 200 found objects relating to agriculture, a nod to the Ames family history.
